A devoted Blogger I am not...

It has been almost a year since my last blog entry. My life has simply been to busy to find the time to sit down and type. Looking back on my last comments I can only smile. I have still not finished the hooded sweater for my daughter, and probably never will. Once I had the vest portion assembled I tried it on her and it fit rather awkwardly. I didn't like the look of it all that much either, so it sits unloved and unfinished in a chest in my office with other wayward projects and balls of yarn waiting for a purpose. I can at least say that I have finished a few projects. Soon I will try and post pictures of some of my creations.

What a Wonderful Life!

The last two weekends at our house have been great! Usually my husband (Jerrod) has to work at some over the weekend, meaning we hardley ever get to spend a whole weekend playing with Daddy. The past two weekends however he has been home and we have had great fun just playing around the house. The weather is starting to warm up here in Huntsville which means we have spent the days playing outside and working in the yard and the evenings around the charcoal grill. My daughter is a bit of an independent weasel, so she plays well by herself most of the time. My husband and I get to sit around enjoying each others company while watching our girl play and I get to do lots of KNITTING! I have just finished the vest portion of my daughters sweater. It is from a pattern that I found on Lionbrand.com. Just a basic hooded cardigan done in a beautiful dark brown they call coffee. I have decided to leave off the hood so that means that now that I have the "vest" portion assembled and all my ends woven in there I just have to make two sleeves...Shouldn't be that hard right I mean it is just a circle. As I said before I haven't been knitting all that long, and while I have circular needles that I actually prefer to use over straight needles I have yet to actually knit anything "in the round". Since these sleeves are so small, only 5 inches at the wrist opening I am thinking that maybe I should try using Double Pointed Needles "DPNS". One more problem, I don't have any DPNS. That is easy enough to fix with a quick run to the craft store and just maybe I will be able to navigate all 8 points without stabbing myself or loosing needles. I guess we shall see. I spent most of yesterday weaving in my ends on the sweater and baking bread...yumm. Sounds like Miss Laura would like another piece of bread so I guess I better go and serve the princess. Maybe she will feel like going shopping this afternoon so I can begin to tackle these sleeves.

My first post....

Here it is my own blog!!! Why do I need a blog??? Good question but hey I figure everyone else has one so why not right. More than any thing I want to use this blog to keep up with my crafting adventures. I "started" knitting about 2 weeks before Christmas last year, so I have been knitting for around 3 months now. At first I wasn't very comfortable with it. Now that I have gotten the basics down and completed a few projects I am really getting in to it. I LOVE to scour my library for knitting books. I never would have dreamed there were so many different things that you can knit. My favorite book so far would probably be Mason-Dixon Knitting. Thus far I have completed a few scarves...very basic but enough to get the hang of things. Now I am making a sweater for my daughter. The pattern is from Lionbrand.com and is very easy to follow. I found some wonderful pictures of knit dresses for little girls in my last library search and was really inspired to try one. Unfortunately all of the patterns that I found are knit in two pieces and then stitched together, which will work but I can see no reason why a dress for a little girl couldn't be knit in the round. So far I haven't had much luck finding patterns to do so but I am working on it. So much to do and so little time. For now my little angel is napping and my knitting needles and the lunch dishes are calling....wonder who will win my attentions first????
